Aldridge Gardens is an inspiring place for individuals or groups to volunteer! There are many opportunities for anyone who enjoys working with people, and who has a love of gardening or would like to learn more about it.
Guided Walking Tours
This volunteer will conduct guided walking tours of the house and gardens for groups of ten or more. Groups will have prearranged the tour through the Volunteer Coordinator. The volunteer selects the tours they wish to conduct. Training is required. Commitment is as needed.
Education Docent
The Education Docent will lead hands-on field trips for elementary school children from Hoover and surrounding school districts. Training with the Education Coordinator is provided prior to leading a field trip. Field trips generally take place in September through early November and April through mid May.The volunteers select the days they wish to lead field trips. Commitment is as needed.
House Host/Hostess
This volunteer will greet visitors to the house and show the house to prospective facility renters. They will conduct house tours for individuals or small groups and sell gift items from the kiosk. Some light clerical duties are required such as answering the phone, mail-outs, etc. On-the-job training is provided. The commitment is on-going using flextime.
Gate Greeter
The Gate Greeter will welcome visitors to the garden and keep a count of the number of visitors. They will answer questions and pass out the Self-Guided Walking Tour pamphlets. On the job training will be provided. The commitment is on-going using flextime.
Garden - Horticulture
Garden volunteers will help our resident Horticulturist/Curator with garden maintenance and planting. On the job training will be provided. The commitment is as needed or on-going using flextime.
Special Events and Projects
These volunteers will assist in various ways with an event or project. Special events will have a chairperson who has predetermined volunteer needs for the event. Volunteers may then choose from a variety of positions. On-the-job training will be provided. The commitment is for that event or project only but a volunteer may be asked to work more than one time if the event is of a several day duration.
