Hydrangea serrata 'Bluebird' ('Acuminata') is a very old Japanese selection. The lace cap has pale blue infertile florets and periwinkle blue fertile florets. As the fertile florets are fertilized, the infertile florets turn face down revealing pink reverses. The foliage has burgundy tones turning uniformly dark in the autumn.
