When is the best time to prune...
Q: When is the best time to prune my native Oakleaf hydrangeas which are HUGE?   I live in Middle Georgia.

A:  The recommended method for pruning the native hydrangea is to remove the old stems all the way to the ground in early spring.   Pruning individual limbs to reduce the size creates succulent growth at the top of the plant.   This removed branch will send up several new shoots.
