Q: I have a hydrangea growing in a large pot my patio.  I bought it from a lady who was moving and she had it for several years.  It was doing well through the summer but now there are white spots on the leaves.  I live in southern California.  The soil seems damp. Am I watering too much?  Also, the flowers are not turning a true pink color anymore.

A:   During the dormant season, spots are common.  Clean all old leaves away from the plant.  To achieve a pink color, add agricultural lime to soil.  It takes about a year to raise pH for pink flowers.
